Information handling

This week in maths we are doing information handling. We have been able to link this to our topic and made a pictogram to show the different colours of eyes of the Primary 2 Bumblebees.

After that we made our own pictograms using dice. Every time we rolled a 1 we had to draw a 1 in the right column and so on, until one column was full. Then we counted how many of each number we rolled.

Tag Rugby

We have had 3 sessions of rugby and have 1 more to go! It is great fun and a good way to develop team working skills as well as the physical skills involved in the game.

In the warm up the class practised dodging and swerving skills and did the 'emu walk'.

Pulse

We are learning about the heart this week. We tried to find our pulse in class and we felt to see what the difference was before and after exercise.  Although it was hard to count every beat, we were able to tell that our pulse rate was much higher after doing exercise. We found out that this is because our hearts have to work harder to supply our muscles with blood and oxygen when they are moving more quickly.

Library Time

We enjoyed our weekly visit to the library. Some children listened to a story on the listening centre while others had a look at books and chose ones to take home. Primary 2 Bumblebees are very good at following the rules in the library and try to be nice and quiet so people can enjoy a peaceful reading session.

This week we are learning about the heart. We learned that the heart works very hard to pump blood around our bodies, and it pumps about 2 and a half litres every 30 seconds. We tried to see if we could work as hard as the heart, and pass two and a half litres of water from one bowl to the other in 30 seconds.

We found that it was difficult to pass all the water in such a short time, helping us to realise how hard our hearts work and the importance of making sure we try hard to keep our hearts healthy.

Sunny spelling

We took the opportunity to enjoy the sun whilst we did our spelling this week. We wrote our spelling words in chalk. The primary twos did well to remember the words we came up with together inside.
