To close our topic work we are linking it to the world cup. Each group has chosen a team and made a flag and a football strip for their team. The teams are going to design healthy meals and some exercises and we will do the workouts in our teams next week.

Fingers Feel
The Ladybirds and Bumblebees worked with Mrs Linklater to learn a poem to perform. The classes did a great job of performing it in assembly and the audience enjoyed it so much they asked to hear it again! Here is a recording we made afterwards.
'What can your fingers see for you?
Whether a surface feels old or new.
Is it bumpy, lumpy
slippery, slick
prickly, scratchy
hard as brick
spongy, rough
softer than dough.
Touch it,
see if your fingers know.'

Smelling experiment
We worked in a pair with a partner from the ladybirds to use our smelling sense. There were 5 different smells and there were some really good guesses about what each one was. The one that nobody guessed was mustard. It was important to quietly discuss with our partner our guesses so that other pairs did not hear!
Tongue Twisters
With Mrs Linklater we did some tongue twisters as a warm up to learning a poem to perform. It was hard work to get all the sounds out without getting muddled but everyone worked hard to say them slowly and then build up to say them more quickly.
We are learning a senses poem in parts so all being well there will be a video to follow!
4 in a row
We are having some revision weeks in maths so there will be no more maths homework in P2 bumblebees. We played a game of connect 4 to practise counting up money. The aim was to put 4 counters on 4 pictures of coins and add up the total. If you added it up correctly your counters stayed on the board. The winner was the person with the most counters.

Area
We are learning about area in maths.
We started by using different materials to work out the area of surfaces around our classroom.
We found out that it is much harder to work out the area of a shape or space that is circular.
We then played a game in groups where one person drew a shape and the other 2 people guessed how many cubes it would take to fill the space. The person with the closest guess got to draw the next shape.
The challenge at the construction area this week is to fill areas marked with masking tape to see what their area is in cubes, blocks or cups.

Sports day
What a super day we had for sports day! The weather was beautiful and so many families and friends came to join in the fun. I didn't get chance to take many photos but I know that there was lots of fun being had and I was very proud of the class for showing such good sportmanship at all times. Well done to the dolphins who were the overall winners.

Drama
We enjoyed another drama session with Mrs Linklater. As a warm up we played a human body version of fruit salad. Instead of apples, pears and bananas we had skeletons, hearts and kidneys.
After that Mrs Linklater, the surgeon, came to perform an operation but before she took any body parts away, they gave us a clue about how they were useful and if we guessed what they were they got to stay in the body.
We then used our senses to help imagine ourselves as a character in a story, thinking about what we could hear, see, smell, taste and touch in our own versions of the story as we listened to Mrs Linklater read it.
