Fingers Feel

The Ladybirds and Bumblebees worked with Mrs Linklater to learn a poem to perform. The classes did a great job of performing it in assembly and the audience enjoyed it so much they asked to hear it again! Here is a recording we made afterwards.

'What can your fingers see for you?
Whether a surface feels old or new.
Is it bumpy, lumpy
slippery, slick
prickly, scratchy
hard as brick
spongy, rough
softer than dough.
Touch it,
see if your fingers know.'

Tongue Twisters

With Mrs Linklater we did some tongue twisters as a warm up to learning a poem to perform. It was hard work to get all the sounds out without getting muddled but everyone worked hard to say them slowly and then build up to say them more quickly.

We are learning a senses poem in parts so all being well there will be a video to follow!

Drama

We enjoyed another drama session with Mrs Linklater. As a warm up we played a human body version of fruit salad. Instead of apples, pears and bananas we had skeletons, hearts and kidneys.

After that Mrs Linklater, the surgeon, came to perform an operation but before she took any body parts away, they gave us a clue about how they were useful and if we guessed what they were they got to stay in the body.

We then used our senses to help imagine ourselves as a character in a story, thinking about what we could hear, see, smell, taste and touch in our own versions of the story as we listened to Mrs Linklater read it.

Mick West Duo

We were treated to a visit from the Mick West duo - a pair of performers up for the Folk Festival. We did a fun warm up with them to exercise our vocal chords using different vowel sounds. We got to join in a couple of songs and add some actions and we also enjoyed listening to them perform tunes for us.

The Incredible Itch and You can't take me!

We enjoyed another drama session with Mrs Linklater. As a warm up we did the Incredible Itch. The itch was spread around the room. The itchiness went from 1 to 10, getting itchier and itchier as the numbers went up.

We then played "You can't take me!". In groups the children were given a room in the house and had to get in to the shape of something in that room. Mrs Linklater was going to take things out of the room if there was no good reason for it to be there. Primary 2 had to give a clue for us to guess what item they were and why they should be kept in the room.

The children gave good clues for us to guess. Because we guessed correctly, they got to stay in the room.

Afterwards, we did the same game with parts of the body. We had to give a reason why the part of the body we were being could not be taken out.

Tanzanian drumming

In music the class have been doing some Tanzanian drumming, using various types of percussion instruments. The children did a good job of following a rhythm and keeping the beat, and adding in shoulder movements in time to the music.

The Pied Piper of Hamelin

The Primary 2 classes got to have a Puppet Workshop
David told us to keep our mouths open when we try not to move
our mouths so that the sound can still come out.
The children got to choose a puppet to use for the story.
Finding out the names, ages and favourite foods of our puppets.
Meeting other puppets.
The town of Hamelin is over run with rats and
the councillors are trying to get rid of them.
The rats are everywhere!
The Pied Piper of Hamelin offers to help the councillors get rid
of the rats by playing his pipe so the rats will follow him.
The rats followed the Pied Piper all the way to the river and
the town of Hamelin was rat free.
The councillors would not pay the Pied Piper.
He played his pipe so the children would follow this time.

The children ended up in a land where the sweets were free
and the rats were banned.

The Hansel and Gretel Puppet Show

We were treated to a visit from David and his puppet theatre. The school enjoyed meeting the Naughty Puppet, who some of the class remembered from last year.
The Naught Puppet did not say sorry for being rude so he had to go away. We were then joined by Hansel and Gretel who told us their story.
Spot the puppets!

Drama

We were delighted to have Mrs Linklater with us on Wednesday to do some drama. As a warm up we played a game called 'Web of Names' and we had to very carefully pass a ball of string to different people in a circle to make a web, remembering who passed it on to each person.

We played a team game that involved acting out a job to the opposite team for them to guess. Once they guessed, the acting team had to try and get back to the wall without being caught!

We then played a game of charades, where a few children left the room while the others came up with an action to guess. One person from outside came in, identified the action and acted it out to the next person and so on.

We look forward to having more drama sessions with Mrs Linklater later in the term.
