World Cup

To close our topic work we are linking it to the world cup. Each group has chosen a team and made a flag and a football strip for their team. The teams are going to design healthy meals and some exercises and we will do the workouts in our teams next week.

Head, shoulders, knees and toes

We have been learning Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes in French and German to go along with our topic. The children have done well to remember the words for each language and not get them muddled.

Senses walk

We went down to the maze to do a senses walk. We found lots of lovely things including a bird's nest. We will use what we have found to write senses poems next week.

Brush, brush, brush your teeth

We enjoyed a visit from Karyn Tait today who reminded us about how to look after our teeth. She brought Harry with her to demonstrate. We got to practise on Harry's friends, remembering to brush gently and in circles.

She then showed us a plate of sugary foods that it is best to eat at mealtimes if we are going to have them. She showed us a plate of healthy foods that are good to have as snacks. We got a shock when she showed us the number of teaspoons of sugar in some of our favourite treats!

We all went home with smiles on our faces!

Keeping healthy

We have been learning about what keeps us healthy and the importance of washing our hands to keep germs away.

First of all one person started with their hands covered in glitter; the glitter represented germs. That person shook hands with others and they shook hands with more people and so on. We understand how easily germs can be passed if we do not take care to wash our hands properly.

We then washed our hands following a set of instructions.
Turn on the warm tap and rinse your hands
Use soap and wash palm to palm
Between fingers
Thumbs
Back of hands
Fingertips on palms
Rinse off the soap
Turn off the tap
Shake off as much water as you can
Dry your hands
We are making posters to put up at the sinks to remind people to wash their hands properly.

Taste test and touch test

To continue our learning about senses, we have been doing some tests using our senses. We had to taste different kinds of crisps to work out what flavour they were. We discussed that this would be more difficult if we did not have our sense of smell to help us. We also did a touch test and had to put our hands into envelopes to use our sense of touch to work out what was inside them.
