Spaghetti Skeletons

We worked in pairs to create skeletons out of different types of pasta. We used macaroni for the skull, ribs and knee caps, we used spirals for the spine, a bow for the hips and spaghetti for the arms and legs. We had to work out what size of pieces to break the spaghetti into, so that our skeletons would look the right size.

Skeletons

We are learning about skeletons for our human body topic. As a warm up we watched and danced along to 'Dem Bones'.

We labelled diagrams of skeletons.

We worked together to make a big skeleton for the classroom. We learned the names of some of the main bones in the skeleton and some of the purposes of the skeleton.

Arrays

To help us with maths we have been using counters and putting them into rows, so that we can start doing times tables. Using counters helps us to count up in 2s, 5s and 10s.

Bring Me

In maths this week we have been doing repeated addition. We played 'bring me' to help us collect groups of equal amounts of objects and added them together to make a total.
3 lots of 5 = 15

4 lots of 10 = 40

7 lots of 2 = 14

Tag Rugby

We had our first tag rugby session this week and enjoyed getting stuck into the activities. After the warm up, the first activity was rugby stuck in the mud. Those without rugby balls were the catchers. Once caught, those with rugby balls held them above their and waited to be freed by a team mate rolling a ball through their legs.

We then played rugby bulldogs, where those with the rugby balls had to cross the pitch before getting tagged by the other team. The winner was the last one left in with a rugby ball.

Drama

We were delighted to have Mrs Linklater with us on Wednesday to do some drama. As a warm up we played a game called 'Web of Names' and we had to very carefully pass a ball of string to different people in a circle to make a web, remembering who passed it on to each person.

We played a team game that involved acting out a job to the opposite team for them to guess. Once they guessed, the acting team had to try and get back to the wall without being caught!

We then played a game of charades, where a few children left the room while the others came up with an action to guess. One person from outside came in, identified the action and acted it out to the next person and so on.

We look forward to having more drama sessions with Mrs Linklater later in the term.

Library Time

Mrs Scott took the class to the library on Tuesday to choose new books and to do some quiet individual and paired reading. Going to the library is great fun, and the children enjoy looking at lots of different types of books.
